Semiconductor Equipment & Lab Operations Manager (Contract-to-Hire)
Mivium is hiring a hands-on semiconductor equipment professional to own R&D lab operations and keep critical hardware running in a fast-paced startup environment. This role is for candidates with experience in semiconductor tools, field service, vacuum systems, deposition equipment, gas delivery hardware, and electrical troubleshooting.
This person will report directly to the Senior Vice President (SVP) and work closely with R&D, engineering, and leadership to keep critical lab operations, hardware systems, and development projects moving at startup speed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare samples and specimens for testing and analysis.
- Own day-to-day R&D lab operations to ensure a safe, organized, efficient, and high-functioning development environment.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of semiconductor R&D equipment, including vacuum systems, deposition tools, gas delivery systems, and related electrical, mechanical, and process hardware.
- Diagnose electrical and systems-level issues using practical lab and field-service experience, identify root causes, and implement durable fixes.
- Minimize equipment downtime through fast response, sound judgment, preventive maintenance, and strong operational follow-through.
- Coordinate hardware setup, upgrades, vendor service, spare parts, and infrastructure readiness across lab systems.
- Manage hardware-related projects from planning through execution, including timelines, logistics, installation support, and issue resolution.
- Maintain lab readiness by overseeing tool status, consumables, maintenance schedules, documentation, and operational workflows.
- Partner closely with R&D, engineering, and leadership teams to prioritize work, unblock experiments, and support rapid development cycles.
- Establish and improve processes for lab organization, equipment reliability, safety, and operational scalability.
- Take full ownership of problems as they arise, make quick decisions in ambiguous situations, and keep critical work moving.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in semiconductor hardware support, equipment maintenance, field service, lab operations, or related technical environments.
- Strong experience troubleshooting complex hardware systems with electrical, mechanical, vacuum, and gas-handling components.
- Working knowledge of semiconductor R&D tools such as deposition systems, vacuum pumps, pressure control hardware, gas delivery systems, chillers, power supplies, and instrumentation.
- Proven ability to diagnose issues independently, prioritize under pressure, and execute with urgency.
- Experience managing equipment vendors, service providers, repair coordination, and hardware logistics.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance hands-on technical work and operational management.
- Comfort working in a startup environment where priorities shift quickly and every team member is expected to take initiative.
- Clear communicator who can document problems, solutions, and status updates effectively.
- Safety-minded approach to lab operations and hardware handling.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in semiconductor process development or R&D environments.
Familiarity with vacuum deposition, thermal processing, gas cabinets, MFCs, or high-temperature systems. - Experience building maintenance systems, lab workflows, or operational procedures from the ground up.
- Project management experience for hardware installations, tool upgrades, or lab infrastructure improvements.
- Comfort supporting a growing company where systems and processes are still evolving.
Laboratory Technician – Electrical & Mechanical Systems
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Lab Technician experienced in electro-mechanical systems to join our innovative research and development team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our laboratory operations and conducting experiments to advance semiconductor technology.
This position will be part of the team within the R&D department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strong technical background with a focus on electro-mechanical systems and lab management.
- Design, build, and maintain end-to-end lab experiments, from setup to analysis and reporting.
- Collaborate with team members to provide support on experiments and troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Conduct laboratory experiments following written or verbal instructions with precision.
- Create and maintain thorough documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Record experimental data and test results accurately in specified formats.
- Assist research staff in non-standard experimentation as needed.
- Ensure a well-stocked and clean laboratory environment.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment, ensuring all equipment is properly cared for.
- Collaborate with team members to identify and implement improvements for greater process efficiency.
- Adhere to all safety protocols while handling materials in a R&D lab setting.
- Must work on-site with the ability to commute to Fremont, CA 94538 (Required).
- Schedule: 6-8 hour shifts, Monday to Friday.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Familiar with electrical engineering tools (multimeter, network analyzer, directional couplers, watt meters, wire crimpers, soldering irons).
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles (vacuum, pressure, temperature, and various forces)
- Familiarity with traditional chemistry techniques and laboratory procedures, at least 1 year of laboratory experience cumulative.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures accurately.
- Quick learner with the capacity to pick up new skills to support daily lab activities.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Basic understanding of chemical safety protocols and handling of hazardous materials.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline
- 1+ years of hands-on experience in a chemistry or materials science laboratory is a plus..
Laboratory Technician Assistant
We are seeking a dedicated Lab Technician Assistant to join our dynamic research team. This role supports various laboratory operations and contributes to ongoing scientific research projects.
This position will be part of the team within the R&D department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare samples and specimens for testing and analysis.
- Perform basic laboratory procedures and experiments under supervision.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring cleanliness and proper functioning.
- Record and document research data accurately.
- Assist in organizing and labeling samples and specimens.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a sterile work environment.
- Support senior researchers in conducting experiments.
- Manage inventory of laboratory supplies.
- Assist with basic administrative tasks related to lab operations.
- Must work on-site with the ability to commute to Fremont, CA 94538 (Required).
- Schedule: 4-8 hour shifts, Monday to Friday.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Familiarity with wet chemistry techniques and laboratory procedures, at least 1 year of laboratory experience cumulative.
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skill.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and equipment.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in data entry and analysis software.
